Advanced Nodes, Sustainability-Push, Specialty Gases New Highs
San Diego, CA, October 14, 2025: TECHCET — the electronic materials advisory firm providing semiconductor materials supply chain information— the electronic gases materials market is set to grow +5.0% in 2025 to $6.34B USD, driven by advanced node adoption, EUV lithography, and rising demand for ultra-high-purity gases and precision gas mixtures. Specialty gases are forecasted to climb +5%, while bulk gases are expected to rise nearly 4%, reflecting growth in advanced technologies supporting applications such as AI, advancing telecommunications, and EV/energy. This follows a modest +0.4% increase in 2024, as the industry stabilized post-recovery according to TECHCET’s 2025-2026 Critical Materials Report™ on Gases.

Growth in transition to eco-friendly gases, on-site generation of N₂ and H₂, and new formulations, mixture and purities to meet performance needs at sub-10nm nodes is also being seen. And despite it’s significant global warming potential, demand for NF₃ continues to grow with global demand for semiconductor chips. Alongside NF₃ growth, there is growing interest in environmentally friendly alternatives, as highlighted in TECHCET’s report. Meanwhile, certain device integration advancements are displacing gas sources with alternatives, such as WF6 for tungsten being displaced by molybdenum. Meanwhile, sustainability goals are pushing recovery, recycling, and lower-GWP alternatives, though supply chain challenges remain.
A fire at Kanto Denka’s NF₃ plant in Japan in August 2025 raised supply concerns from major chipmakers, underscoring vulnerabilities. China’s capability in NF₃ continues to grow while some non-China countries/companies are also making efforts toward localization. Despite these geopolitical risks, the market shows strength and TECHCET forecasts steady growth through 2029.
